Homes in Notts condemned to slow broadband
In a scathing attack on the coalition government the Labour party has claimed that many people in Notts have been left to cope with slow broadband speeds for an additional two years.

Officials from the former Labour government have recently launched a scathing attack in relation to the broadband plans of the current coalition government. Labour party officials have said that as a result of the delays that have been caused by the coalition thousands of residents and business across Notts and in many other areas have been condemned to slow broadband speeds for an additional two years.
This is because the Labour party had planned to roll out high speed broadband across the country by 2013 at a cost of two hundred and thirty million pounds. However, the coalition has now pushed this back to 2015 by which time it aims to ensure that ninety percent of the country has access to superfast broadband.
Labour officials said that people in Notts were suffering as a result of this delay, as they had to put up with the disadvantages of poor quality broadband for two extra years compared to what they would have had to cope with under Labour broadband plans. One Labour official said: “Universal broadband is not simply a useful tool for households but is essential to the ability of the United Kingdom to stay competitive and achieve strong growth. Areas with universal broadband access are more likely to attract investment due to the key infrastructure for competitiveness and growth being in place.”
Speaking about the government’s plans current Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt said: “We have set aside the money and the expertise to make this happen. Now local authorities need to step up to the plate by bringing forward their own plans setting out how they will deliver this level of ambition.”
