Home broadband has been transformed by Wi-Fi connectivity
Experts have advised that an increasing number of homes in the UK are now using wireless broadband technology in order to access the internet.
With the huge surge in broadband take-up throughout the country many experts now believe that the next big thing that is rapidly ‘transforming’ the way home broadband user access their broadband service is Wi-Fi technology.
For a number of years wireless technology has essentially gone nowhere but the technology is now proving increasingly popular due to huge reductions in price and big increases in speed according to John Dunn, the editor of an IT website called Techworld.
The introduction of new rival platforms like Long Term Evolution (LTE) and WiMAX on the market has also been a product of new interest that is being shown in Wi-Fi connectivity, added Dunn.
He explained “[Wi-Fi] seemed like an easy way to make these devices internet-capable without compelling people to buy slower and expensive data plans from mobile phone networks. Mobile networks have fought back with a separate wireless technology called 3G, which is also just about fast enough to allow usable mobile broadband.”
One of the big reasons for a rapid increase in the use of wireless technology has been the fitting of Wi-Fi chipsets into smartphones and laptops according to recent figures released by the research firm, ABI Research.
The ease with which users can now set up wireless home networks and a significant increase in many people’s understanding of how to use computers and networking equipment has also become a major contributor to the number of people now setting up these Wi-Fi networks in their home. This is also likely to increase over the next few years with the introduction of next-generation wireless network technology like WiMAX and LTE.
