High speed wireless broadband demand on the increase

A recently released report shows that the demand for high speed wireless broadband is increasing, and could result in over two billion users worldwide in the next seven years

According to the results of a recent study, which was released earlier this week, the rising demand for high speed wireless broadband is set to result in an explosion in the number of users, with predictions that there will be over two billion users globally by 2015. Carriers and handset makers are thought to be amongst the main industries to benefit from the £784 billion that is set to be generated in terms of revenue by 2015.

The data was compiled by research firm Analysys Mason, and shows that take up and profits are set to soar from the relatively low wireless broadband levels seen at present. This data demand is set to drive forward the implementation of advanced 4G broadband according to some industry officials.

One official from the research firm stated: “The availability of affordable mobile broadband services, mobile devices and data services are driving revenue growth as wireless penetration hits saturation in developed countries.”

Consumers are already enjoying higher speeds support, and network capacity, as wireless service providers continue to move from 2G technology to 3G, such as Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) and High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA). However, officials state that with 4G technology the benefits will be even greater for consumers.

However, the report has also stated that for the next few years HSPA is set to remain the leading technology, and will decrease from dominance of around eighty eight percent at the end of this year to around fifty four percent by 2015. A co-author of the report said: “Despite the increasing availability of LTE [long term evolution] and WiMAX, HSPA and HSPA+ will still support 54 per cent of wireless broadband users by the end of 2015.”
