High speed Internet for homes in rural Ireland
According to a recent report homes in rural areas of Ireland will now be able to enjoy high speed Internet thanks to two communications companies.
Rural areas of Ireland could soon be enjoying the benefits of high speed Internet access according to a recent report, and this has stemmed from a deal that has been struck between two communications companies. The deal was announced earlier this month between Avanti Communications and Hutchison 3G Ireland, which is a mobile communications company.
Officials have said that the deal shows the importance of the role that satellite technologies could play in the provision of higher speed broadband to countries that want all of their citizens have access to this service. The UK government wants broadband for all by 2012, and it is thought that satellite technology will play a part in bringing this plan to fruition.
In Ireland around ten percent of the population cannot get access to broadband, and these are homes that are in rural areas. It has been claimed that having fixed line broadband would be too costly in these areas, but officials have said that this can be made up through access to mobile broadband access, with around twenty two thousand homes in Ireland likely to get access to the Internet via mobile broadband technology.
Officials also added that in the past having satellite connection to provide broadband for the mass market has been too costly and rife with problems, such as interference from weather conditions. However, the use of advanced technology, such as the new brand of spectrum being used by Avanti, will eliminate many of these issues, making this a far more viable option for those that would not normally be able to get access to broadband through the fixed line option.
