High speed broadband network for health and social care workers in Lancashire
According to recent reports, Lancashire NHS is to benefit from a high speed broadband network costing nine million pounds, which will connect a number of health centres, surgeries, and hospitals.
It has been announced that a new broadband network costing nine million pounds will be launched in Lancashire to benefit the area’s National Health Service. The launch of the project will mean that health and social care workers will be able to benefit from the high speed network, as will patients that are being dealt with in the area.
The network will offer a range of benefits including a 10Gbit network that boasts LAN, remote access services, voice, wireless, and mobile services. In addition to easing the strain for health and social care workers in the area the project is also aimed at enhancing the patient experience, improving efficiency, and increasing internet security.
A number of hospitals, surgeries, health centres, social care teams, mental health departments, NHS sites, and even prisons will be connected through the network, which will be launched through an initial partnership between Imerja and Virgin Media Business. A Lancashire NHS official said: “Our new shared infrastructure service will enable Lancashire’s health services to collaborate in new technology projects to ensure we have information available to the clinician at the point of care, as part of our Care Closer to Home agenda. By working together, Lancashire’s healthcare community has addressed affordability issues to provide the most innovative and agile technology solutions available to significantly improve our patient services.”
A spokesperson for Virgin Media Business said: “Technology is at the heart of delivering next generation healthcare services. As more local authorities, health and social care agencies gear up to deliver a personalised service for citizens in line with the government’s personalisation agenda, organisations are likely to regard Lancashire’s collaborative partnership as an ideal example of how to achieve a total solution to meet current and future needs.”
