Hertfordshire village halls to get broadband upgrades

Sep 13 2010 / By Rob Webber

It has been announced that around fifteen village halls across Hertfordshire are to benefit from broadband upgrades after a fifteen thousand pounds grant was provided to carry out the improvements.

Following the award of a grant from the East Herts Local Strategic Partnership around fifteen village halls across Hertfordshire could be set to benefit from broadband upgrades. The East Herts Local Strategic Partnership consists of East Herts Council, Hertfordshire Constabulary, Herts County Council and other groups.

The East Herts Local Strategic Partnership is said to have secured two hundred and fifty thousand pounds from central government with the aim of awarding grants to local community groups and charities. The fifteen halls that are to have broadband services upgraded will receive a total of fifteen thousand pounds.

A senior council official for the area said: “In this tough economic climate, supporting our communities is more important than ever so we are very pleased to provide grants for these projects. By pooling our resources and working together, we have been able to support as many of these worthwhile organisations as possible. As the axe falls on public sector funding, we will need, more than ever, to work in partnership to help keep these valuable schemes afloat for the district.”

Whilst it has been announced that fifteen halls will enjoy the upgrades as a result of the grant money it has not yet been revealed which of the halls in the area will be receiving grant money.
