Government should respect consumers wishes over broadband
A broadband industry expert has recently stated that the government needs to stop pushing broadband onto consumers in the UK who do not want access to this service.
For millions of people across the UK, broadband has become an important and even a vital part of everyday life, both in terms of our business lives and in terms of our personal lives. We do all sorts of things via our broadband connections, from shopping and entertainment, to work, socialising, and more. In fact, for many of us the prospect of being without broadband is not just daunting but for many people horrifying.
However, there are also many people that have never had broadband and more importantly do not want access to this technology, and one industry official has recently stated that this is a wish that the government should respect. The industry expert said that it seems as though the government is trying to push broadband onto people over the coming years, but that not everyone will want broadband within that time, or at all.
The broadband official said that access to broadband should be an option for consumers not something that the government pushes onto them whether they want it or not. The government has announced plans to have every home connected over the next few years, but that this goal seems to involve pushing broadband onto those that do not want it.
He also said that the goals of the government would not meet all users needs, both in rural and urban areas, stating that some people in rural areas may want faster speeds than those that are available via broadband, and some of those in Urban areas, whilst they have access to faster speeds, may not want to be connected at all.
