Global recession has no effect on the growth of the takeup of WiMAX broadband
A popular WiMAX website has advised that even in the midst of the current economic crisis the adoption of mobile broadband services using WiMAX technology will continue to increase.
The cost of a WiMAX mobile broadband solution means that internet access can be offered at a much lower price than other services that are similar in nature, which is hugely beneficial to most service providers, according to the WiMAX Forum.
WiMAX technology has also been proven to work added the group, which promotes this wireless broadband technology as a compatible standard for all forms of devices that use mobile broadband technology.
Scenna Tabesh, the director of communications for the forum said that millions of customers are already using the technology and forecast that “impressive growth” would by enjoyed by WiMAX once a major network operator decided to back the wireless broadband technology.
She advised “Even with the global economic climate as it is, WiMAX adoption continues to grow and we still have a commanding lead over the competition, no matter what the critics may say. WiMAX service providers currently cover a conservatively estimated 430 million people globally and each month we see these numbers increase.”
It was estimated earlier this month that in the first quarter of 2009 that there were as many as 400 000 Global BWA (Broadband Wireless Access) and WiMAX customers as well as 50 million new active 3G customers, according to the research company, Maravedis.
With the recession apparently having no effect on WiMAX takeup the only real threat to the technology now is its rival, LTE (Long Term Evolution), with both technologies currently vying for the approval and backing of the numerous network operations looking for the best next-generation of wireless technology.
