A high speed wireless broadband link was recently beamed into Farmleigh by a popular wireless broadband specialist to allow the broadcasting of the Global Irish Economic Forum.

In order to provide the Global Irish Economic Forum with the necessary facilities, a 155Mbps wireless broadband connection was supplied into Farmleigh recently by AirSpeed Telecom, a wireless broadband provider.

An opportunity to engage with the Irish community around the world and to explore how the Irish, both abroad and at home, can work together in order to contribute to the overall efforts towards economic recovery in Ireland was the description given for the Global Irish Economic Forum, which was organised by the Department of Foreign affairs in Ireland.

A whole range of individual sessions and workshops took place throughout the weekend and around 200 high-profile delegates took part in the event.

Video diary and broadcast facilities for the event were provided by the contracted supplier, Outside Observe Broadcast and parts of the underlying telecommunications that were needed to fulfil the events requirements were provided by AirSpeed Telecoms which worked alongside Outside Observe Broadcast.

The 155Mbps wireless broadband link into Farmleigh was provided for the whole duration of the event by AirSpeed Telecom using its flexible IP network, which can provide bandwidth to almost anywhere it is required.

Live video feeds were taken from all the cameras that had been placed around Farmleigh and multiple content streams were output in a number of different formats for web applications using the live feed provided by AirSpeed Telecom. Amongst the various formats output by feed were Real Player, Flash, Mpeg4 and Windows Media Player, which allowed users to view the feed from as wide a range of applications as possible.

Plans to make online video blogs and video diaries available for a number of websites have also been announced by the department.
