Games industry calls for increased broadband investment
It has been reported that a games industry group has called on the government for greater investment and ambition when it comes to broadband investment and improvement in the UK.

An industry group from the UK games industry has recently called upon the government to be more ambitious with its plans for super-fast and universal broadband, stating that more investment is to be needed if the government is going to make any significant improvement with the UK’s broadband infrastructure and access. The industry body has said that the government needs to be more ambitious with its plans when it comes to broadband in the UK.
The industry group is TIGA, and when calling on the government to increase its investment and ambition with regards to broadband officials from the group cited figures from Akamai. The group said that the average broadband speed for UK homes and businesses was currently 3.8Mbps, which meant that the UK was lagging way behind countries such as South Korea, where the average speed for homes and businesses is an impressive 12Mbps.
Richard Wilson from TIGA said that he was looking forward to seeing what the government had planned with regards to its improvement and investment plans, which would be included in the up and coming growth strategy, which is to be published in the middle of January.
He said that the government was too focused on one thing and not paying enough attention to others, stating: “For too long the coalition government has acted like a one-club golfer – it has had a strategy for reducing the deficit but little to say about growth.”

Surely this would pay for itself with the extra taxes generated as more people spend more money on gaming? Should be a no brainer for the government!
