Free wireless broadband access will be given to Adidas’ new adiZones following a team-up with the sportswear giant and BT. As part of Adidas’ £1 million sponsorship of the London Olympics in 2012 the capital will see the building of these adiZones, which are specialised outdoor sports centres.

The London boroughs of Newham, Waltham Forest and Greenwich will be the three locations that sports fans can go to do things like play online games, make free phone calls over the internet, or just relax and browse the web at broadband speeds.

In a bid to encourage the most deprived areas of London to participate in sports activities the local councils are offering free sports sessions at the three venues that have also had BT Openzone Wi-Fi broadband hotspots installed by BT.
“This project marks the first of a series of collaborations between BT and Adidas, and we’re delighted to be providing London communities with free wireless broadband at the adiZones,” said the General Manager of BT Openzone, Chris Bruce.

The Marketing Director of Adidas Area North, Nick Craggs also added “adiZones are state-of-the-art multi-sport areas which underline the Adidas commitment to providing free to use sporting facilities in the capital. BT Openzone Wi-Fi hotspots will be an important addition to making adiZones valued focal points for the local community.”

Customer demand for high quality broadband speed Wi-Fi has been spurred on by the popularity of bandwidth intensive applications like YouTube and iPlayer and the availability of Wi-Fi enabled devices. Due to techno-wise kids getting online more hospitality and leisure sites are experience an especially high usage.

There are also over 150 000 location in the UK and Ireland, in addition to adizones, where customers of BT can choose to go online, and this includes those provided by BT Openzone and its roaming partners, the BT Openzone at BT Broadband hotspots, plus the BT FON Wi-Fi community.
