Fastest broadband in Europe promised by Tories

The Tory party has once again pledged super-fast broadband, and has gone a step further by stating that if the party wins the general election it will provide Britain with the fastest broadband in Europe.

Broadband speeds have become a big part of the promises that the various political parties have been making in a bid to win votes in the up and coming general election. The Labour government has already put its own plans in place to improve broadband access and speeds, and recently the Conservative party also promised to ensure that Britain would get faster broadband speeds and better access.

The Tory party has now gone a step further and has promised that if it wins the up and coming general election it will ensure that not only are broadband speeds improved across Great Britain but that the country will enjoy the fastest broadband speeds in Europe. The party has launched its ‘technology manifesto’ and said that its plans with regards to broadband in Britain will help to create jobs and boost business.

Francis Maude, the Shadow Cabinet Office Minister, stated: “For too long we have endured a closed shop government, which keeps information from the public, fails to stimulate innovative industries and wastes money on bloated, unnecessary and gold-plated IT projects. Our proposals will make the UK the most technology friendly government in the world, introducing a right to government data, extending super-fast broadband and creating a much more level playing field for SMEs.”

It is thought that the general election will be held on May 6th, and officials from the Tory party have said that if they win the general election Britain “will be the first country in Europe to extend super-fast 100 mbps broadband across most of the population”.
