Families reminded about Home Access Scheme
Many families in the Greater Manchester area are being urged to ensure that they do not miss out of free laptops and broadband access for their children before a government initiative offering these benefits comes to an end.
Many families across the UK have benefitted from a government initiative that was set up to provide more kids with computer and broadband access at home, enabling those from poorer families and backgrounds to have the same benefits in terms of education as those from wealthier households where there was already a PC and broadband access available.
The scheme, called the Home Access Scheme, is now due to come to a close, and thousands of families in the Greater Manchester area may have missed out on the opportunity to get a laptop and broadband access for their kids via this scheme. The scheme is set to end in March of next year, and families in the Greater Manchester area are now being urged to take action.
Families that qualify for the scheme are awarded a £500 grant to get the equipment that they need from specified suppliers, and this gives the kids in the families the chance to enjoy improved education and better resources at home. For many families the chance to have broadband access and a laptop in the home for their kids will prove really beneficial as it will allow them to assist their kids with school projects and work more effectively as well as proving more beneficial for the kids.
One mother who took up the scheme said: “We have really benefited from having access to the internet at home. As well as working on school projects together with Evan, it’s allowed me to pursue my own learning. We couldn’t think about life without it now.”
