Europe is second largest broadband region in world
It has been revealed at the recent Broadband World Forum in Paris that Europe is now the second largest broadband region in the world with subscriptions showing impressive growth over the past twelve months despite the recession.
A recent study that was carried out by a specialist group has shown that whilst the recession and the difficult financial climate are still causing problems in many areas broadband subscriptions across Europe have continued to enjoy impressive growth. The results of the research were announced at the recent Broadband World Forum in Paris.
The research revealed that Europe is now the second largest broadband forum in the world, and that despite the global financial crisis and recession broadband subscriptions have shown impressive growth across Europe. Over the past twelve months the number of broadband subscriptions was show to have increased by around thirteen percent, rising to one hundred and thirty five million.
In the second quarter of this year global broadband uptake is said to have increased by almost thirteen million taking the total number of lines to four hundred and forty five million. A massive thirty nine percent of all broadband customers are now in Asia.
One industry official said that despite the recession broadband take up was continuing to move forward and strengthen. He said: “This report shows that, while broadband adoption is not immune from the state of the world economy, the technology continues to move forward. I believe this year has shown that broadband expansion is not limited to the top industrialised countries, but is a key factor in assisting developing nations to gain a foothold in today’s tough market.”
