Dundee to benefit from high speed broadband

Jul 29 2010 / By Rob Webber

Businesses and residents in the Dundee area will welcome plans to roll out new super-fast broadband in the area which will be done through fibre optic broadband networks.

Whilst some people across the UK may already be enjoying pretty high speeds when it comes to their broadband connections there are people in many other areas that are still suffering from sluggish broadband speeds or lack of adequate broadband facilities altogether. This can cause a real strain for businesses and residents in the areas where speeds need dire improvement and can have a real negative effect on business or everyday life.

Residents and businesses located in the Dundee area will therefore be pleased to learn that they will be benefitting from new super-fast broadband, which will be delivered through fibre based broadband networks. The higher speed broadband facilities will make a big difference for the many people and businesses that may have become reliant on broadband in their working or everyday lives.

The delivery of the high speed fibre optic broadband will be through the i3 Group, and both homes and businesses in the Dundee area will be provided with access to the super-fast broadband network by the group. The i3 Group has said that it will be providing sixty eight thousand homes with speeds of up to 100Mbps as part of the rollout.

Over the next four years the group said that it hopes to connect around one million homes and businesses to its fibre based broadband network, and will be doing this with the help of Fujitsu, which it is partnering with on the project. Chief executive officer of the i3 Group Elfed Thomas said: “Our Fibrecity network is the UK’s largest fibre-to-the-home initiative and we’re delighted to have signed Fujitsu to support us.”
