Download speeds of 10Mbps to be offered by satellite broadband service
A communications company has announced that by the end of this year it is planning to offer download speeds of up to 10Mbps with its satellite broadband service in the UK.
Consumers that may be considering having satellite broadband services rather than standard broadband will be pleased to hear that faster download speeds may be coming to the UK via satellite broadband by the end of this year. One communications company has announced that by the end of 2010 it is hoping to offer speeds of up to 10Mbps via its satellite broadband service in the UK.
Officials from Eutelsat Communications have said that the company is upgrading its satellite broadband service, and that the improvements will mean access to higher download speeds of up to 10Mbps. KA-SAT, its latest satellite, is currently in the process of undergoing trials and testing in France, but it is hoped that it will be launched into Orbit by the end of the year.
Those that are signed up to the provider’s Tooway satellite broadband service will be able to enjoy faster download speeds once the satellite has been launched into Orbit. At present the satellite broadband service offers speeds of up to 3.6Mbps, and this is accessed through a modem and a small satellite dish. With the new service consumers can choose to bundle their services should they wish to do so according to reports.
Steve Petrie from Tooway stated: “Tooway’s existing satellite broadband service already more than meet the Government’s Digital Britain target of a 2Mbps service for all UK residents but KA-SAT will ensure that the broadband needs of UK rural residents continues to be met far into the future.”
