Discussion on Digital Britain
A new online discussion site has been created by the government in order to encourage more debate on the vision it has for a society and economy that is completely digital in the UK.
Links to a variety of relevant blogs regarding Digital Britain that have appeared on Twitter, Write to Reply and a number of other sites that have been considered to be significant are contained on the discussion site in order to help ‘enable a genuinely networked debate’ between users throughout the UK.
Stephen Carter, the minister for technology, communications and broadband said “We understand that there’s huge interest in the Digital Britain report and have already seen a flood of comments posted on various websites and blogs. So we are opening up our own online forum for the report, imaginatively titled digitalbritainforum.co.uk. The point of publishing an interim report was to set the scene for Digital Britain, clarify the issues and posit ideas for solutions. The report raised many questions but it didn’t contain all the answers. So in this next stage, engagement is critical and we want the public to get involved and share their views.”
In order for the UK to secure its position as a leader in quality, investment and innovation in the communications and digital industry throughout the world it created digital Britain as its strategic plan of action. Early summer 2009 is the date that has been set for the publication of the Digital Britain final report.
Stephen Carter is appealing for views on the recommendations made in the interim report by filming a video, which he hopes will help to kick-start the discussions regarding the future of Digital Britain. The resulting debate may help to provide invaluable information as to the direction users in the UK wishes to see future technology moving.
