Digital Agenda launched by European Commission
The European Commission has now launched its Digital Agenda, which is an action plan that addresses a number of points and issues that are aimed at speeding up the recovery of the economy.
The Digital Agenda has recently been launched by the European Commission, and this action plan deals with a range of issues and points with the aim of improving the recovery of the economy. The European Commission has promised, as part of its plan, to ensure long term investment in information and communication technologies and maximise the potential of such technologies to aid the recovery of the economy.
The European Commission, which has recently outlined its goals relating to homes getting access to high speed broadband over the coming years, wants to create a single digital market with the help of this agenda. One industry official said: “We must put the interests of Europe’s citizens and businesses at the forefront of the digital revolution and maximise the potential of ICTs to advance job creation, sustainability and social inclusion. The ambitious strategy set out today shows clearly where we need to focus our efforts in the years to come. To fully realise the potential of Europe’s digital future we need the full commitment of member states, the ICT sector and other vital economic players.”
Jérémie Zimmermann, spokesperson for digital rights group La Quadrature du Net, said that the company was more erring on the side of caution with the Agenda, stating: “While parts of the Agenda are somehow disappointing for open standards and free software users, the proposals are quite encouraging overall. That said, the Agenda is not binding for the future of EU legislation. It should be an invitation for every citizen to ensure that this constructive document turns into a continued commitment to the public interest.”
