Details revealed on broadband user trends
A recent report released by UKOM has revealed how broadband users are utilising their time whilst online, with a significant increase in social networking use seen over the past three years.
Broadband customers use the Internet for a wide range of purposes these days, and a report has recently been released indicating the most popular uses when it comes to the internet. The report was released by the UK Online Measurement Company, and highlights trends seen in Internet use showing how they have changed over the past three years.
The data showed that in April of this year Brits spent sixty five percent more time online than they did in April of 2007, which shows a massive increase in the popularity of the Internet. Increased affordability, better access, and a wider range of sites and online activities have helped to push up Internet use over just a few years.
The most popular way to spend time online in Britain was blogging and social networking, which now accounts for nearly a quarter of online users’ time and has taken top place when it comes to online activities. Emails came in at second place, and despite many thinking that emailing would suffer due to social networking it still takes up over seven percent of internet users’ time.
Three years ago social networking accounted for only nine percent of the amount of time spent online, but over the past few years has enjoyed growth of three hundred and forty percent. On the other hand online news accounts for only three percent of online users’ time, although users are now spending three times longer reading web based news than they were three years ago.
