Demand for fibre-optic broadband in UK is high
An industry official has stated recently that the demand for fibre-optic broadband in the UK is high, and that the government needs to develop a solid investment plan to ensure wide access to this technology.
In a recent report one industry expert has stated that the demand for fibre-optic broadband in the UK is high, and many consumers and businesses are keen to benefit from this advanced technology. However, he also said that at present this technology was only being made available in areas considered to be economically viable and that solid investment plans need to be put into place to ensure the wide availability of fibre-optic broadband.
The industry official, Mr Dawson, said that there was no doubt that there was a great demand for fibre-optic broadband and that the issue of accessibility to this technology was something that needed to be addressed as soon as possible. He stated: “There is no one pushing the case through forcefully and with any resources nationwide. That’s where government really have to step in with a solid, well funded plan.”
He also said: “Countries that have a joined-up strategy are really going to reap the rewards. In the UK it is currently all a bit piecemeal. Commercially it [fast broadband] is being pushed in the urban areas whilst other areas of the country are being left behind, which leads to a two tier system.”
Dawson said that a key element that was missing at present was public sector support for the launch of super fast broadband services across the UK. Many industry groups and officials have said that investment in super-fast broadband in the UK will reap rewards in terms of the economy, which is why governments are being urged to develop solid plans for investment in this technology.
