Customers not receiving the broadband speeds that they expected
Around twenty five percent of broadband customers in the UK are said to be receiving far lower broadband speeds than they had expected when they signed up to the service.
For many people a key consideration when selecting a suitable broadband package is the speed that is offered by the broadband provider, with heavier internet users in particular needing to opt for packages that offer greater speeds to enable them to benefit fully from their broadband service based on their needs.
However, a recent Eforum has revealed that around twenty five percent of customers are not receiving the broadband speeds that they were expecting when they signed up for the package that they took out, with many complaining that the broadband speeds that they received were actually far lower than the speeds that they had been expecting.
An official from the Broadband Stakeholders Group said that industry officials needed to spend time considering which of the ‘aspects of next-generation broadband that are potentially transformational? Is it the headline speed or is it actually a minimum level of guaranteed speed? These are things we need to understand better.’
He also went on to state: ‘My feeling is it’s much less about headline speed than it is about an assured level of service and, critically, greater upload speeds, that could really enable things like cloud computing to become a real reality for customers.’
The average broadband speed in the UK is said to be around 4.1Mbps according to figures that were recently released by the UK’s communications regulator Ofcom, but the average advertised speeds in the UK is said to be up to 7.1Mbps.
