County Council invest cash in faster broadband
Following complaints over lack of broadband speeds and facilities in rural areas of the UK one county council has decided to invest one hundred thousand pounds in improving services in some of the areas of the county.
For some time there have been a number of concerns voiced over poor connection speeds and lack of broadband facilities in rural areas of the UK, but one county council has decided to address this issue with a cash injection for improvement, which has been welcomed by local residents and businesses, many of whom may have been desperate to get improved broadband access.
Kent County Council has decided to make the investment after a recent meeting highlighted complaints about poor connection in certain parts of the county. The council is investing one hundred thousand pounds in improving broadband services in a number of areas in the county, and this includes Selling, near Canterbury, Kings Hill in West Malling, and Iwade, near Sittingbourne.
Officials have also said that if the budget will stretch that far a number of other villages in the area could also benefit from improved broadband services and connections. A number of meetings had been held over recent weeks to look at the problem of poor broadband connection in these areas, and the response by the county council has been welcomed by those that had expressed their concerns.
An official from Kent County Council said: “KCC has advertised for proposals for Iwade, Selling and Womenswold. These proposals will then be passed to the parish councils to make their own decision about a supplier. Kings Hill and Crockham Hill will be coming to us with their own solutions without the need for us to advertise. We have agreement in principle, should suppliers require it, to use the KCC network for transferring traffic to and from the internet, using existing circuits to local schools.”
