According to a recent report many councils across the UK are starting to realise the benefits of having fibre optic broadband with many now making the implementation of high speed broadband in their areas a priority.
Over recent years more and more people have realised the benefits of fibre optic superfast broadband, and the demand for this type of broadband service from consumers has increased greatly. It has now emerged that a rising number of local authorities across the UK are starting to realise just how beneficial fibre optic broadband could be to their areas.
The report claims that a rising number of local authorities across the UK are now stating that the implementation of fibre optic broadband is going to be a priority, as the benefits of having this sort of broadband service will prove highly beneficial to the area. It is thought that one of the main factors that is drawing local authorities to fibre optic broadband services is the positive impact that this service could have on local economies.
Councils are keen to boost the business credentials of their areas, and are looking to be able to compete on a global basis through the launch of fibre optic broadband services. Gateshead Council recently became the first in England to launch fibre optic broadband services across the Baltic Business Quarter. The leader of the local authority in Gateshead said that this move would allow the area to “compete on a global level and at the speed of light.”
Plymouth council is also said to be looking at a similar scheme, with one senior official from the council stating that the economy would be harmed if they did not look into taking these measures.
