Officials from a local authority have welcomed fibre based broadband plans, stating that fibre optic broadband is exactly what rural areas need to aid their success.

Whilst the government’s plans and fund raising tactics to provide higher speed broadband to rural areas has caused a lot of controversy over recent months, officials from one local authority have welcomed the plans for the launch of fibre based broadband in rural areas stating that this is exactly what these areas need to contribute to their future success.

Officials from Calderdale Council are excited about the plans, and believe that the roll out of fibre based broadband to rural areas will make a huge difference and contribute to a brighter future for these areas. The business and economy leader from Calderdale Council said that the plans came as good news, and that the roll out of higher speed fibre based broadband was “just what businesses in rural areas need.”

He said that improvements in access for the companies that were based in rural areas would provide many benefits, stating: “Businesses want to be well connected for efficiency and also to be able to network and communicate with others. Designers and developers and other businesses need to send big files, but if they can’t do that they can’t compete. This gives them a chance to compete in a global market so it’s very good news.”

It is widely recognised that bringing higher speed broadband to areas that have struggled to receive adequate access to these services can provide many benefits in sectors such as health, education, jobs, business, and the economy in general.
