Consumers should make sure they compare broadband deals

September 26th, 2007 by Richard

With heightened competition amongst broadband providers consumers are urged to keep comparing deals to ensure that they get the best package

Over the past few years competition between broadband providers in the UK has become increasingly tougher, with ISPs offering everything from free upgrades to free laptops in order to try and entice customers to sign up for their broadband services or bundle deals. However, industry experts are warning consumers not to get sucked in by seemingly impressive deals that could mean compromising on service, and to make sure that they do their research and shop around to get a deal that offers good service and high quality rather than a low rate service that offers impressive freebies.

According to many officials customers should not assume that those offering cheap bundled services are going to necessarily provide the best service and quality, as in some cases better service is achieved by going through individual providers for broadband, landline, and television. However, consumers also need to remember that bundled services are likely to be the best value for money in terms of price, and this is something else that needs to be taken into consideration.

It is also important for broadband customers not to sign up to a long term contract in order to get their hands on a freebie, such as the free laptop offers recently promoted by AOL and Orange, as they may find themselves signing up to long term misery for the sake of a freebie.

Industry experts advise consumers to use a number of methods to find out the best service and provider for their needs. Of course, comparing process is an important factor in finding the right broadband provider. However, consumers should also check reviews on the provider wherever possible, or better still get word of mouth recommendations from family, friends, or neighbours.
