Consumers finding it easier to get internet access
The aim of the government to provide universal broadband could be making headway already according to an industry expert who claims that it has become easier for consumers to gain access to the Internet.
Both the former Labour government and the current coalition government have pledged their commitment to provide universal broadband access for people across the United Kingdom, with the aim being to provide access of at least 2Mbps to residents across the country.
One industry official now claims that the aim of the government to provide universal broadband access could be getting closer, as more and more people are finding it increasingly easy to get connected to the internet, which is something that is reflected by the rising number of people that are getting online.
According to James Smythe, general manager of the UK Online Measurement Company, the rise in the number of people that have been getting online is at least partly due to the increased ease with which consumers are able to get connected. In addition to this more and more people need to use the internet for work, which has also added to the figures.
Smythe stated: “Getting connected to internet at home has become easier, and it has become a part of more people’s working lives too. Speed of connection must also be a factor – widespread access to decent broadband speeds means that the internet is getting better at making people’s lives easier.” He also said that the figures indicated that the UK had a strong digital economy, adding: “All age groups in the population are able to get online more easily now with less need to be technically competent.”
