Computer initiatives need to be expanded in New Zealand says UK expert
It has been reported that one UK industry official is calling for computer initiatives in New Zealand to be expanded to ensure that nobody misses out.

The variety of initiatives that the government and industry groups in New Zealand have been taking with regards to broadband and digital inclusion is all aimed at helping to ensure that as few people as possible miss out on the benefits of having access to computers, broadband, and other digital technology, which as most people know can offer a range of valuable benefits.
One UK industry official is now said to be calling for an increase and improvement in digital inclusion initiatives in New Zealand, including the Computers in Homes programme. In a recent speech Dr Tim Williams, a UK urban regeneration expert, said that these schemes and initiatives needed to be expanded to make sure that nobody missed out on the benefits that advanced technology could provide.
He was speaking at the launch of his new report “Connecting Communities – The Impact of Broadband on Communities in the UK and its implications for New Zealand”. He said: “New Zealand led the world in the 1980′s with its open approach to telecommunications market reform and can do so again in creating a nation of digitally literate people who are able to make effective use of the new ultra-fast broadband technology.”
He added: “Now is the time for innovation in the use of broadband networks as they are rapidly becoming a reality for all New Zealanders -urban and rural. But we cannot measure success by access to broadband alone – the real goal must be its use by people.”
Do you agree that these initiatives need to be expanded in New Zealand?
