Oct 30 2008 / By Rob Webber

An announcement made recently by the leading provider of policy control and application assurance technology, Camiant Inc. that it has opened its office in Maidenhead, UK as a European headquarters to meet its expanding customer base of broadband operators.

Although it has offices in both Scotland and Spain it will be using this office to supplement the regional sales and support resources that it already has.
Camiant will be making use of the new sales and support facility in Maidenhead in order to reach more regional broadband operators and serve its customers more directly. The recent expansion of its offices and major growth in business have been the result of Camiant winning a number of new accounts provided fixed, cable and wireless services in both Europe and North America. The provision of cost-effective and immediate relief to mobile broadband operators in managing exploding data usage efficiently is offered through Camiant’s Policy control platform.

Research firm Analysys Mason has issued a report called “Mobile Broadband: Another Substitution Threat for Fixed Operators?” which advises MNOs (Mobile Network Operators) that the opportunities in mobile broadband are ones that they cannot afford to miss although so far they are finding that keeping the momentum going is quite a difficult task.

There is currently a need for MNOs to separate the exponential growth in bandwidth usage demands that have been seen recently and the cost of the networks as it is essential that network capacities are increased to avoid any reductions in quality of service. By 2013 mobile networks will account for 47 percent of all European broadband subscriptions.

The Policy Control Server used by Camiant offers full compliance with the Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) specifications from 3GPP, Allows operators to maximize throughput within their existing network limits by dynamically allocating resources using real-time intelligence. This helps to capitalize on premium, new services that generate revenue and control of capital expenditure related to network growth.

Vice president of business development for Camiant, Randy Fuller said “In this tough economy, European operators are looking at policy control with great interest as a means to intelligently manage their network resources. In the case of mobile broadband, flat rate data plans and HSPA have caused usage to skyrocket and European operators need concrete solutions to help them better manage that growth while keeping their services profitable. Camiant is delighted to bring its expertise and its policy control server direct to operators in Europe with our new local facility.”
