Businesses should avoid cutting costs relating to broadband and IT
A technology industry expert has warned businesses to avoid cutting back on broadband and IT technology during the recession, as cutbacks in these areas could do more harm than good.
With the ongoing recession continuing to wreak havoc across the UK and resulting in serious financial difficulties for many businesses it is little wonder that many smaller and medium sized businesses are having to look at making huge cutbacks in a variety of areas in order to cope financially during the recession. However, whilst many may be looking at making cutbacks in areas such as IT and broadband access, one industry experts has warned that this could be a bad idea.
The technology expert stated that cutbacks in areas such as these could actually end up doing the businesses more harm than good, as in the current economic climate investment in technology has become vital for businesses to ensure that they are heading in the right direction. He also said that online marketing had become an invaluable tool to generate more business and income in the current climate, and therefore any cutbacks on technology budgets could prove to be disastrous.
The official added that companies that do cut back in these areas could end up suffering as a result, whereas those businesses that continue to invest in these areas could be rewarded with increased success. He stated: “IT offers organisations of all sizes the opportunity to reduce costs and improve performance. The danger in a recession is that organisations don’t invest in IT and when the upturn comes they are less competitive than others.”
Research was recently carried out by mobile communications and broadband giant, O2, which found that many businesses continued to embrace new technology, with seven out of ten firms now using smartphones on a day to day basis and around fifty percent of firms increasing their investment in technology.
