Businesses in Nottingham struggle to compete because of broadband
It has been claimed that many businesses in the Nottingham area are struggling to compete and are being held back as a result of broadband problems in the city.

For businesses all around the UK having good, reliable, fast broadband service access is vital when it comes to competing with other businesses on a global basis, and when it comes to moving forward and their performance. However, problems with broadband services have resulted in many businesses in different parts of the country struggling, making it difficult for them to move forward and be competitive.
One recent report claims that many businesses in the Nottingham area are being held back by lack of quality broadband in the city, and that this is making it difficult for these businesses to compete with companies in the Far East. Officials have said that the copper network in the city that runs the broadband is unable to cope with high demand and usage, and this is having an adverse effect on businesses.
One businessman in the area said that high speed broadband “is a fundamental part of the communication practise. Can we really risk not having it?” He added that countries in the Far East and other parts of the world were spending money on investment in broadband because of its importance, adding: “They think it’s hugely important for their future. I think the UK should take a precautionary principle and make that investment rather than waiting to learn that it got it wrong.”
Another businessman who works as an editor said: “We’re dealing with moving hi definition video and large audio files back and forth between our clients. If a client wants assets from us next day we would have to send it overnight because it’s the time when the connection is at its quietest. It’s crazy. “It’s quicker to send assets in the post, which is just wrong in the 21st century.”
