Business expert describes broadband tax as reasonable

A business expert from the Daily Telegraph has stated that the government’s proposed broadband tax is perfectly reasonable.

A lot of controversy has arisen as a result over the proposed broadband tax, which has been put forward by the Labour government. The Conservative party has stated that Labour has taken the wrong route to try and raise money for broadband investment, and has slated the broadband tax, which will involve those with landlines to pay at least fifty pence tax per month and possible more depending on how many landlines they have.

The Shadow Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, has slated the broadband tax recently, but one business expert from the Daily Telegraph has stated that the broadband tax is actually perfectly reasonable, and that Jeremy Hunt’s negative views are ‘myopic’ because there are many people that will benefit from the investment in high speed broadband, particularly those that are living in rural areas.

Damian Reece from the Daily Telegraph said that the higher speed broadband service was “certainly worth paying for”. He added: “Hunt’s complaint about it being an unfair cost to British business rings hollow. Businesses, large and small, stand to be the biggest beneficiaries of superfast broadband.”

Hunt stated recently: “I can’t believe the Government is pressing ahead with such a damaging and misguided tax. The fact that SMEs will be forced to pay up to £1,500 each is staggering. When even the Government admits the tax might not be needed and could cause damage, it simply must be dropped.”
