BT rolling out superfast broadband to Shrewsbury
The government is pushing to improve the overall state of broadband in the country with their Broadband Delivery UK project. BDUK was launched to achieve several goals which include providing universal broadband access with speeds of at least 2Mbps, and bringing next-generation broadband technology to at least ninety-percent of the country by 2015.
One of the providers that is working with the government to achieve these goals is BT Broadband. The firm had announced last year that their fibre deployment would be completed by 2015, but accelerated working schedules have pushed the date of completion back by a full year to 2014.
The next area to benefit from BT’s fibre rollout is Shrewsbury. Over 30,000 homes and establishments in the area will be able to access superfast broadband speeds throughout the next few weeks as the provider wraps up the broadband rollout across the town.

BT has revealed that deployment and the upgrades will begin this week. Shrewsbury will be the second area in the county to benefit from the firm’s rollouts, as Donnington in Telford was the first area that got a boost in their broadband speeds last year.
John Dovey, BT’s West Midlands regional director, said: “Fast and reliable internet connections are an essential part of our national infrastructure, whether we want them for boosting our businesses, delivering essential public services, education online or entertainment at home. Nobody is doing more than BT to roll-out faster broadband across the region and we want to go further.”
BT has already unveiled their plans to expand their superfast broadband network across the county, including properties in Baschurch, Dawley, Newport, Stirchley and Wellington.
