BT reaches ‘major milestone’ with fibre optic rollout
Communications giant BT has recently published figures and a report showing that it has reached a major milestone with regards to its fibre based broadband rollout.
UK communications giant BT has recently released its second quarter figures for this year and has also revealed details with regards to the progress of its fibre based super-fast broadband network. The company has said that the rollout of its fibre optic broadband is progressing well, and provided an update on how the rollout was going across the country.
The company said that its fibre optic broadband rollout was progressing as planned, and added that the network now reaches one and a half million properties across the UK. Ian Livingstone, the Chief Executive of BT, said that the figure was a major milestone for the company.
Mr Livingstone also said that the company’s superfast fibre optic broadband rollout would now increase at a rapid speed now that this initial impressive target had been reached. He said that the company was adding an average of around one hundred thousand properties a week to its fibre based broadband network.
One industry official said: “BT is rolling out its Infinity packages at an impressive rate, with hundreds of new exchanges set to be upgraded by summer 2011. But if you can’t wait for BT Infinity to land in your area, you should consider Virgin Media already offers speeds of up to 50Mb broadband to more than half the country and will be launching an even faster 100Mb broadband package by the end of the year.”
