Bromyard seeking high speed broadband solution
Town councillors and internet users in Bromyard are keen to find a solution to bring faster broadband in the area, after slow speeds have left users struggling for the past five years.
It has been reported that town councillors in the Bromyard area, along with local web users, are focussing on efforts to bring higher speed broadband to the town, as many have become tired of having to put up with the sluggish speeds that have been causing problems for the past five years.
According to Herefordshire ward councillor Alan Seldon the communications giant BT is reluctant to invest in improving the town’s infrastructure so that it is brought to the same level as other parts of the country. He said that it was time to put the pressure on because so many people and so many businesses were heavily reliant on having broadband access.
Seldon stated: “A lot of businesses around here rely on it heavily and frankly BT are not delivering. I think it’s about time we put some pressure on.” He added: “My mobile broadband speeds are now up seven mbps which is faster than my telephone line. I think the highest advertised rate in the town is eight but I have never met anybody who has that.”
Alan Wheatley, a retired town resident, said that there were several solutions that could help the town to get faster broadband access. One was for BT to change its mind and invest in the town’s infrastructure, the second was to seek grants to raise the money to pay for upgrades, and the third was for local people to invest in improvements to the infrastructure themselves.
