Broadband users will be keeping in touch with Skype this Christmas

With many consumers unable to get away from work over Christmas week many have said that they will be keeping in touch using access to broadband through the use of technology such as Skype and through social networking sites.

Whilst many people may be looking forward to a few days off work to enjoy Christmas with friends and loved ones there are many people that will not be able to get the time off work and will therefore not be spending all that much of the festive season with the family and friends. However, most of these people still intend to keep in touch with their loved ones through access to broadband services and technology such as Skype.

According to a study that was carried out by Skype over thirty eight million Brits will be working over the festive season, and for many broadband and computer technology is their main method of keeping in touch with their loved ones and friends over the festive season since they cannot actually get the time off work to spend with them in person.

An official from Skype stated: “Christmas is traditionally a holiday for spending time with friends and family. However, some of us have to work and more people than ever before are choosing to use technology such as video calling and instant messaging to keep in touch with people whilst they work, wherever they may be in the world and no matter what they are doing. Skype video can let soldiers join in and watch when their kids open their presents, doctors to talk to their parents during a festive shift and night security staff to check that their children have left their stockings out for Santa before bedtime. Technology like Skype means you are closer to people than ever before, particularly during the holiday period.”
