Broadband users buy gifts from abroad

According to a recent report more and more broadband users are now buying their gifts for Christmas from overseas retailers, using their internet access to pick up bargains.

With Christmas just around the corner many people will be looking to purchase their Christmas gifts for friends and loved ones. In the past this involved having to trawl the shops on the High Street in freezing weather and queuing up for what seemed like hours.

However, these days many people with broadband and internet access are heading online to get their Christmas gifts, and a recent report has shown that more and more people are buying gifts from overseas retailers by going online. According to research over four million Brits will buy gifts in this way, and will devote at least a third of their budget to shopping in this way.

The research was carried out by Santander Cards, and an official from the firm said: “With many people tightening their belts, shopping for Christmas gifts online can provide a more cost effective and convenient way of shopping. Others are perhaps hoping to seek out a different choice of goods and in some cases preferable exchange rates.”

Those most likely to go online to do their Christmas shopping are people aged between eighteen and thirty four, with a massive eighty percent of people in this age group planning to buy gifts online. This compares to just fifty nine percent of those that are aged fifty five and over.

For many people using the Internet to get their Christmas gifts is ideal because it gives them more choice, better value for money, and means that they can shop from the comfort of their own homes.
