Broadband users advised to avoid exceeding download limits
Broadband users who may be using the Internet more than usual over the festive break are being warned to be mindful about their broadband data limits so that they can avoid exceeding them and being charged.

Many people will be relaxing and having fun over the festive holiday, with a chance to kick back, forget about work, and spend time with loved ones. It is also a time when people tend to use their Internet more because they are spending more time at home, and have more time to engage in online activities than they would normally, due to time constraints.
Whilst it will be lovely for people that are normally tied up with work to be able to relax, get online, and enjoy some fun and entertainment, it is also important for those with broadband to make sure that they are mindful about their data download limits. Exceeding these limits could result in additional charges or even suspension of service, so consumers are being warned to check their contracts to see what download limits are in place with their service.
Research was carried out recently showing that over the Christmas holidays around thirty five percent of households with high speed broadband tended to watch more television online that they would normally. Twenty eight percent of consumers said that they did not how much data they downloaded each month, and fifteen percent said that they did not know what the limit was on their service.
One industry official said: “Christmas is already an expensive time of year, so the last thing consumers need is a hefty excess downloads charge being added on to their broadband bill.” He went on to state that consumers needed to ensure that they checked their download limits to avoid unnecessary charges.
