According to a recent report the availability and affordability of broadband has resulted in a boom in home businesses

In the current economic climate many businesses that have a high level of overheads are really suffering, with the country on the brink of recession and costs such as rental of premises, electricity costs, and the cost of supplies going through the roof due to soaring inflation levels, which have hit a sixteen year high of 5.2 percent recently.

However, according to a recent report the number of home businesses has been increasing recently, and thanks to advanced technology, such as broadband services, which are easily available and affordable for most, many home businesses have continued to boom despite the economic crisis and the global credit crunch.

One industry official said: “The growth of home businesses, despite the economic downturn is a major business success story for the region. Technology – such as broadband – has made it easier and more cost-effective than ever before to start a business in your home.”

The report was compiled by a home run business called Enterprise Nation. The report shows that over fifty percent of the UK’s two and a half million home businesses are booming and developing new products and services. The businesses are run from the home in areas such as the bedroom, a home office, or even a garage or shed.

Amongst the areas that have been named as hotspots for home run businesses are the Rossendale Valley, Wigan, Stockport, Bolton, and Manchester. Many of the businesses involved in the study expected to see business improve further in the coming six months. Industry officials said that the current state of the economy is resulting in more and more people looking for ways to start a business from the home, where they can enjoy optimum profit without the overheads linked to a business run from some other premises.
