Broadband switching down but broadband bundles up

Recently released figures from the UK’s financial regulator Ofcom have shown that whilst the number of people switching broadband deals has fallen the number of people taking up broadband bundles has increased.

The communications regulator in the UK, Ofcom, has recently released figures that suggest the number of broadband bundle deals that are being taken up in the UK have been increasing, with more and more people deciding to take multiple service packages that include broadband along with other service such as television services or landline. Often these deals can work out cheaper for the consumers as well as offering the convenience of having just one provider to deal with for all services rather than having a number of different providers.

However, despite the encouraging figures relating to the take up of broadband bundle deals the regulator has also shown that there has been a drop in the number of broadband customers that have been switching broadband deals, and with this in mind Ofcom plans to review the regulations relating to switching providers.

The number of people that were found to be switching broadband providers in order to find a better deal on their broadband service was said to have fallen from around twenty four percent in 2007 to just thirteen percent last year. Ofcom said that compared to services such as insurance and energy this was a very low switching figure.

An official from Ofcom said: “Takeup of communications services keeps growing and consumers are becoming smarter at finding the cheaper deals available by choosing bundled services or switching from standard annual contracts. Ofcom will continue to work to make sure that there are no unnecessary obstacles to prevent consumers from switching and to promote effective competition in communications markets.”
