Broadband speed is fastest in Bradford

May 3 2011 / By Richard Patterson

It has been revealed in a recent report that Bradford has the fastest broadband speeds for the UK, but the UK has scored poorly in global rankings.

The UK has been put to shame recently after only one city from the whole of the UK managed to make it into the top one hundred fastest broadband locations worldwide – and even then it only came in at position 99! Despite the various efforts to ensure that broadband speeds are increased and services are improved across the UK there are many areas where speeds are inadequate and are certainly nowhere near the advertised speeds from the various Internet service providers.

The rent Akamai top one hundred ranking showed that the only UK city to make it on to the global list of the fastest 100 locations was Bradford. However, the fact that the city only came in at position 99 means that the UK only made it onto the list by the skin of its teeth.

It is thought that the disappointing results could result in further scrutiny of advertised speeds from broadband providers, which are clearly nowhere near the speeds that consumers are actually receiving. There were a few UK areas that were just outside the top 100 according to reports, including Luton, Oldham, and Southampton. London, however, was way down the list, only managing to get as far as the 400s.

In terms of the fastest broadband countries the UK was said to have edged up slightly to 26th place, which is only one place higher than in the previous quarter. Mainly Asian countries topped this list. With the top 100 cities list there were two countries that accounted for seventy three places, and these were Japan and South Korea.
