Broadband road show held in Anslow

A road show was recently held in Anslow in order to gather evidence relating to the need for faster broadband services for residents and businesses in rural areas.

A broadband road show has been held recently in Anslow to gather evidence about the need for faster broadband in rural areas and to highlight the importance of having high speed broadband in these areas. The road show formed part of a series of Better Broadband Roadshows , which are being run by Staffordshire Rural Hub.

The road shows will be held in different locations around the county over the course of this month, and are being run on behalf of Staffordshire County Council. The aim is to highlight how important faster broadband is in the county and make a case for more reliable, faster broadband services, particularly in more rural areas of the county, which are harder to reach.

The government is aiming to provide broadband speeds of at least 2Mbps for all areas in the UK by 2015 and has set aside funding to improve broadband speeds and services in areas where both speed and accessibility are currently poor. The Rural Hub hopes to get some of the funding that has been put aside so that broadband in the area can be improved.

One official from the council said: “We know that broadband can be patchy in rural areas, and almost non-existent and we want to do something about that. We don’t have the powers of broadband so there is a limit to what we can do. With the Government delivering £530 million to bring broadband up to scratch, we will be accessing that funding but what we need now is people’s experiences. We need to know it is poor. With that information and funding we can work with BT. We have had quite a few people through the door so far and they have been able to use our stickers to provide evidence of their poor broadband.”
