Broadband popularity in UK still growing

September 15th, 2007 by Richard

According to a report released by the Office of National Statistics recently, the popularity of broadband in the UK is still rising

Over recent years the popularity of broadband connections in the UK has been steadily rising, with more and more households and individuals signing up broadband connections. This popularity boost has been partly fuelled through increased availability to broadband services in different areas, an increase in the number of broadband providers, and increased affordability with great value available on broadband packages as competition between Internet Service Providers gets fiercer.

According to a recent report released by the Office of National Statistics in the UK the popularity of broadband in the UK is continuing to rise. Figures from June 2007 showed that over eight six percent of Internet connections in the UK were broadband, whereas in March, just three months earlier, the percentage of broadband Internet connections was just under eighty four percent. Dial up Internet connection popularity has, of course, decreased as a result of this rise in broadband popularity, and according to the report less than fourteen percent of all Internet connections are now dial up.

According to officials from the Office of National Statistics: ‘The market share of broadband connections has been increasing since the index began in 2001, reflecting its growing popularity, widespread availability and competitive connection packages offered by ISPs.’ The report also indicated that the speed enjoyed by UK consumers was increasing, with the June 2007 figures showing that over forty seven percent of connections had speeds greater than 2Mbps, which had increased from just over forty three percent in March of this year.

It is also expected that, in line with the increase in the popularity and installation of broadband connections in the UK the level of complaints and dissatisfaction with broadband providers will also rise.
