Broadband packages with fair usage policies deemed unfair by many

A recent report has revealed that the vast majority of broadband users think that unlimited broadband packages that come with fair usage policies are actually unfair.

There are many broadband packages from a range of Internet providers that are described as unlimited in terms of downloads. Many consumers opt for these packages because the idea of unlimited downloads appeals to them based on their Internet usage. However, a recent report has revealed that the majority of broadband users feel that many of these unlimited broadband packages are unfair because of restrictions that are put into place.

With the majority of unlimited broadband packages there is a fair usage policy in place, and those that exceed this fair usage policy could find themselves being charged extra or in extreme cases could even find themselves being disconnected by their ISP. A recent study has shown that eighty five percent of broadband users feel that the unlimited broadband packages that come with fair usage policies are unfair.

The study also showed that twenty nine percent of people that took out these broadband packages found that their Internet service provider failed to explain their traffic management policies. Twenty three percent of users were not even aware that the package came with a fair usage policy, and forty two percent said that they had no idea how much content they downloaded each month, which put them eat risk of exceeding this policy.

One industry official stated: “Fair usage policies and download limits are fast becoming the next big grievance between consumers and ISPs and this is mainly due to a lack of understanding around the issue. The rules governing fair usage policies and download limits need to be taken out of the small print and made clear and easy for everybody to understand.”
