Broadband industry official says Britain not missing out due to broadband speeds
A broadband industry official has recently spoken out following the release of a report based on broadband speeds in the UK, and claims that slower broadband speeds are by and large not really affecting Britain.
A report was recently released showing that in terms of broadband speeds Britain came in at twenty sixth position based on a global study. The report was published following a study that was carried out by Akamai. One broadband industry official has now spoken out following the release of the report, and claims that Britain is not missing out as a result of slower broadband speeds.
The industry official, Chris Marling, stated that until more advanced applications started to be introduced and launched the slower broadband speeds would not really affect businesses in the UK, as only a small number of technology companies needed to have access to super fast broadband speeds.
Marling stated: “Slower speeds won’t affect you until we start seeing practical applications for these high speed lines, such as 3D TV.” He added: “Rural customers haven’t got much to look forward to unless they live in a forward-thinking county such as Cornwall, which is ignoring a stumbling government and looking for its own solution via EU funding.”
He went on to state that despite Britain’s twenty sixth position in the global broadband speed rankings there had been some excellent developments in the UK, giving the 50Mbps half fibre based service from Virgin and the 40Mbps broadband service from BT as examples of the developments that have been seen in Britain.
