Broadband helping workers during cold snap

With the weather getting increasingly bad in the UK many workers have been unable to get to work. However, officials have said that some workers can benefit from broadband access that will enable them to work from home.

Over the past couple of weeks the weather in the UK has really turns, and with the lowest temperatures on record seen in some areas along with the worst snowfall in decades many people have found themselves in a position where they simply cannot get to work due to disruption to public transport or because of roads being far too dangerous to drive on. Many schools have also been closed, which means that parents are having to take time off work at short notice.

Already the cold snap is taking its toll in business, with many businesses seen their staff levels fall by fifty percent. However, although a lot of people have been stranded and unable to get to their place of work some are able to continue with their duties thanks to access to broadband at home. Officials have said that broadband access has made it easier for businesses to try and keep things ticking over as much as possible.

An official from the Confederation of Small Businesses said that the bad weather had come at a very bad time, as many businesses were still reeling from the recession and the financial crisis, and losing both business and staff numbers as a result of the bad weather was simply adding to the woes of most businesses.

However, he added that these days an increasing number of workers have access to broadband in the home and are able to get permissions from their employer to access their work from their home computer, which can make things a little easier whilst the poor weather continues.
