Broadband customers set to start watching more television online
In this age of broadband we do many things online, from reading the news to doing the shopping – it now seems that we are set to watch out favourite shows online too
According to a recent report broadband users will become increasingly interested in watching television online over the course of this year, with an expected increase in the number of broadband users that decide to watch their favourite shows this way. Broadband has already made many activities more popular online, such as shopping, booking holidays, and much more.
Narrowstep, which is a provider of Internet television services, is expecting the popularity of online television to soar considerably over the course of this year, stating that an increasing number of broadcasters are using the Internet in order to improve profitability. He added that the quality of online television had also improved, and this would help to make it more popular.
An official from Narrowstep said that Europe was actually doing better than America when it comes to the popularity of online television and broadband usage. He stated: “Broadband penetration is so much higher in this part of the world, so it’s really broadband penetration that is driving TV over the internet and streaming adoption.”
So far the figures for the uptake of online television show that fewer than one in five people have watched television online. However, whilst this uptake is still relatively low at present it is set to rise according to Narrowstep, and could already start affecting the scheduled television viewing figures.
A recent survey carried out by Entertainment Media Research showed that around eighteen percent of consumers that were surveyed said that streaming video content had resulted in them watching less standard television.
