Broadband customers more likely to now look for cheapest deal

According to recent research an increasing number of broadband customers are now more likely to look for the cheapest deal given the current financial climate.

With the financial markets in the state that they are in, and with consumers trying to cut back on their spending in order to make ends meet financially, there are many cutbacks and changes that households are having to make in order to rein in their outgoings. Many are looking at trying to find cheaper services to cut back on how much they are spending at this financially challenging time.

The results of a recent study have shown that an increasing number of people are now looking to find a cheaper provider. According to the survey results nearly one quarter of Internet users would now be more likely to look for a cheaper broadband provider as a result of the global financial crisis than before the credit crunch took effect.

The survey also showed that eleven percent of consumers had already switched their broadband provider to find a cheaper one as a result of the financial strains that have resulted from the credit crunch. In the past consumers have often taken into account other factors, such as reputation and service offered by the provider, but price is increasingly becoming the number one factor. The number of people looking to switch broadband provider based on price could increase as recession moves in.

One industry official said: “It’s clear from this study that consumers are becoming increasingly protective of the money they have, with uncertainty over jobs, banks and investments fuelling a defensive attitude towards spending. Naturally many are now actively seeking the cheapest broadband deal they can lay their hands on, potentially saving a few pounds, albeit occasionally at the sacrifice of service quality.”
