Broadband customers failing to benefit from TV catch up facilities

A recent report has shown that most broadband customers in the UK are failing to benefit from the catch up facilities that broadcasters offer.

Most of us are familiar with the annoying feeling that arises when we realise that for one reason or another we have missed out favourite show on television, and this can be a frustrating experience, particularly if it is part of a series that could result in you losing track of what has been happening.

Over the years we have come to rely on various devices to help ensure that we do not miss our favourite programmes on television when we area away, out, or have other things that we need to do, such as video and DVD recorders. However, more recently broadband users have been given the opportunity to enjoy catching up with the television programmes that they have missed through their broadband connection.

According to reports all major broadcasters in the UK offer a range of free catch up services via broadband, and these are available through the broadcaster websites. This means that broadband customers don’t need to worry about setting up recording equipment if they are out, and if the recording equipment fails – as it so often does – then there is always catch up facilities on broadband to turn to.

However, the report also claims that most customers are failing to take up these broadband catch up facilities. It appears that those least likely to use the catch up services available are parents, who claim to have too little time to do this. Those most likely to use the catch up services via broadband are male students. Industry officials have stated that the time when catch up services via the Internet will be more popular than regular recording equipment is still a long way off.
