Broadband customers could switch due to price hikes
It is thought that some customers that take their landline and broadband through BT may switch to an alternative provider after BT revealed that it was increasing its rates.
Whilst many people may be loyal to household names such as BT there are also many these days that need to cut back on their monthly outgoings, and as such as careful about the amount that they pay out for services such as broadband, television, and home phone.
Communications giant BT is one of a number of providers to offer these services in the UK, but has recently announced that it will be increasing the price of its line rental. The cost of line rental from BT will be £13.29 per month once the increases hit, and for those paying by direct debit or e-billing the cost will only be slightly lower at £12.14 per month.
Customers that sign up to BT before the end of October this year can get line rental for a total annual fee of £113.88. However, those signing after this date will have to pay £159.48 at the new higher rate. BT is said to be writing to twelve and a half million customers to tell them about the price increase in line rental.
Officials have said that around fifty percent of BT’s landline customers are on the unlimited calls package, so the price increases won’t affect them. However, some have also expressed concern that the price hikes have come in just as the fifty pence broadband tax that had been planned by the former Labour government was scrapped by the new coalition government.
