Broadband coverage in the UK could be improved by using WiMAX transmitters
A popular newspaper has recently criticised the government for not putting in enough effort to keep the promises it made in the recently released Digital Britain report and has advised that the use of WiMAX broadband technology would increase the level of coverage throughout the UK.
The recent report in the newspaper, The Guardian recently advised that in order to increase broadband availability and to provide more cover for the more rural parts of the country BT exchanges should all be fitted with WiMAX transmitters.
By doing this wireless broadband speeds ranging from 4Mbps to 6Mpbs over an area of 5 miles in diameter could be achieved said The Guardian, adding that at some point in the near future many of the PC’s and Laptops being built would contain embedded WiMAX technology inside them.
The government were criticised by the newspaper for not doing enough to move forward with its promises that were made in the recently released Digital Britain report.
Along with the newspaper a number of industry experts have cast doubts over whether the government will be able to keep to the promises it made in the Digital Britain report for universal broadband that would give everyone in the UK access to connection speeds of at least 2Mbps by 2012. This is particular doubtful in the more remote parts of the country where many broadband service providers still feel that it is not financial viable to rollout services to these areas.
On a number of occasions the government has said that mobile broadband will play a key part in its future plans for the implementation of Digital Britain, although so far it has given no specific indication of what will be done.
